The Scenic Route

Draenor is a most inhospitable place.  I’m not really a fan of any of the zones.  I like Shadowmoon Valley, but as a Horde player, I don’t spend much time in it.  Sometimes you just gotta find somewhere to unwind and relax.

I actually quite enjoy Pandaria zones.  I like the Jade Forest the most.  The Arboretum is a nice place to unwind m (away from those wasps, of course).   I also like the Jade Serpent Temple too.

My favorite main city is Darnassus, even though I never go there.  I love how dim it is, and the wisps, and the kitties and the fact that all the Sentinels are girls.  Bright light irritates me so I enjoy how dark Darnassus is.

Horde-side, I like Silvermoon for its architecture, though it’s a bit too bright for me.  The creepy Murder Row area is nice and dim though.

I also really love Dalaran.  It makes me want to ride around on a carpet singing “A Whole New World”.  I’ve always been a sucker for Middle Eastern-ish architecture.

Even though I absolutely hated questing in Vash’jir and wasn't a huge fan of the underwater swimming thing, I do think it’s a gorgeous zone.  I love seeing the fish swim by and the plants, and the rare sighting of that whale.  The land areas at the top of the zone are nice for sunning on a nice warm day.

Even though I play a lot of WoW, I don’t like many of the zones.  But I’m pretty picky about what zones I like and don’t actually like most of them.  But once in a while I come across one I like.

Little Boxes

I have to say I'm fairly happy with how garrisons are going.  They're good moneymakers and they're a good hub to hang around in.  That being said, I wish there had been a lot more customization.  All the buildings look the same, the terrain looks the same, you get no say in where it's going to be.  The Alliance gets a beautiful zone for their garrison, and I, being Horde, have... a snowy slab of rock.  Have I been Punk'd?

Best case scenario, I was hoping for maybe Sims-style customization, like designing buildings and decor, terrain brushes, garden arrangements, ets etc.  Obviously that was way too much work for the devs.  My garrison doesn't really feel mine.  All my alts' garrisons look the same, and so does everyone elses' on my faction.  There's no way to make your garrison your own.

If I had the option, my garrison would look like a legit fairy village.  Very green and flowery, with rainbows and butterflies, maybe a nice waterfall.  And the houses made from natural green things.  But there'd be no bugs, because I really just can't even with bugs.  If anyone has played Wildstar, you know what the Aurin houses look like.  My buildings would be very similar to that.

Yes, I am secretly a 5 year old.
I imagine my buildings as very organic and whimsical.

There would also be a family of Sprite Darter Hatchlings living under the porch.

Tinker Bell says hi.

Bring Me That Horizon

I'll admit, I was a little salty when Blizzard announced that there would be no flying in Draenor.  I thought the way they did it in Pandaria was the right way, making you experience the content before letting you fly.  They worked hard on those settings so I think every player should experience it in its grounded glory at least once, but after that it just gets old.  Sometimes you want to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible, and generally the way to do that is to fly.

I was disappointed when they said there would be no flying in Draenor.  It felt like some mean clown was bonking me on the head and going HAHA.  Or something like that.  They had put these cool flying mounts in the sotre, and we couldn't fly them?  Like the Iron Skyreaver.  It's Draenor-themed, and it flies, and we can't fly it in the place it's themed after?  I call shenanigans.  Plus, let's be honest, its run is hella janky.

You mean I'm grounded?
However, there was some quality of life improvements to make up for the lack of flying.  Flight paths are way more intelligent, not just looping all around like the old ones.  They're faster and more efficient.  Thought I was disappointed in no flying, I wasn't gonna go around bitching about it.  It is what it is.

But now, we get flying, yay!  I have some work to do.  It's gated behind a hell of an achievement:  Draenor Pathfinder.  The requirements are as follows:

  • Explore all the regions of Draenor
  • Complete 12 Draenor bonus objectives
  • Become Revered with all three factions in the Tanaan Jungle
  • Loremaster of Draenor
  • Master Treasure Hunter

I have some serious work to do.  I don't think I have any of the requirements fulfilled.  I haven't done a single bonus mission either.  But you know, I think this achievement is a happy medium in this whole debacle.  These requirements force you to explore the content, which I think is really what they want everyone to do.  I think it's pretty fair.

Re-beginning

It's been over a year since I posted anything new on this blog.  Things have a tendency to fall by the wayside sometimes.  Most of it is just losing interest, though there have been times I thought of something and thought to myself, "Hey I should write about that."  But of course I never did.  In my defense, I have been legitimately busy.  I just finished up my first semester of college, majoring in computer science, if anyone is wondering.

I'm still playing World of Warcraft.  Still maining a resto druid.  My main server has changed to Zul'jin, as my old server had a pretty sucky raiding environment.  I'm not faring much better though.  Still trying to find a mythic guild that fits with my hours.  My next semester starts at the beginning of September and I already picked my classes, with one starting at the ungodly hour of 8 am, some I can't be raiding too late. I'm grumpy as fuck without 10 hours of sleep.

Despite not raiding much, I'm sitting pretty at an item level of 681.  Not too bad but not all that good.  I feel like I'm capable of raiding at a mythic level.  It's finding a guild that is the hard part.  In the meantime, I've been focusing on doing pet battle stuff, fluffing around on alts, and collecting mounts.  And making gold.  I like that too.

I feel like it's a good time to revive this blog and start writing again, get the creative juices flowing, you know.  Need something to do over the summer.  Writing helps me organize my thoughts.  I'm one of those people who... narrates my entire day at night and thinks so much that I can't sleep and maybe a little place to talk about what I do in gaming will help me get it all out.

To mark my new start on this blog, I changed my profile picture and the header image.  Looks nice, no?  The originals I took the screenies in Moonglade, but I decided I wanted something a bit more colorful and clear so, since Jade Forest in my favorite zone, I went there.  I tried Sholozar first because of the rainbow, but couldn't get a good picture of it, unfortunately.

Anyways, that's all for now.  I have a couple more posts waiting in the wings, so watch out for those.
